Strandhill Golf Club

Strandhill Golf Club, SligoStrandhill Golf Club is know as the “Hidden Gem of the Northwest” and visiting golfer who play the course vow to return to play it again. Nestled beneath the shadow of Knocknarae and Queen Maeve’s Cairn on the Strandhill peninsula, the course offers a unique challenge to both the beginner and the seasoned golfer alike. The course was founded in 1931 as a nine hole course and was upgraded to an 18 hole course in its current form in 1973. Reaching 5804 mtrs (6347 yds) from the championship tees and 5618 mtrs (6143 yds) from the white tees, the course winds it way through towering sand dunes and along the Atlantic Ocean.

Some of the most notable features of Strandhill include its rolling fairways and protected greens as well as the changes in elevation from fairway to green.

Facilities include a practice area, putting green, ladies and gents locker rooms, showers and a full bar and restaurant. Buggy hire and equipment rental is also available. Booking can be done online via the clubs website or by telephone.

County Sligo Golf Club

Rosses Point Golf ClubCounty Sligo Golf Club is a widely renowned as one of the top links golf courses in Ireland as well as Europe and is listed at no.12 in Golf Digest’s top 100 Irish Links Golf Courses. Located in the picturesque village of Rosses Point, approximately 5 miles from Sligo Town, the course consists of 27 holes which include the 18 hole championship course and the 9 hole, Bomore course. County Sligo Golf Club ishome to the famous West of Ireland Open Amateur Championship, played every Easter since 1923 and has hosted many other prestigious events including the Home Internationals, the Irish Close and the Irish Professional Matchplay Championship.

The 18 hole links course works its way along the Atlantic coastline offering stunning views of the beautiful beaches at Rosses Point and Lissadell while Benbulben and the Dartree mountain range provide the backdrop.

Facilities include a 6 bay, covered driving range, putting green, chipping green, short and long game practice area, bunker practice green, short game academy and a well stocked golf shop. There are also changing rooms with showers and lockers. Equipment rental is also available in the form of manual and electric trolley, golf buggies and golf clubs. Caddies can also be arranged by contacting the golf shop or office.

Tubbercurry Golf Club

Tubbercurry Golf Club, Co. SligoTubbercurry Golf Club is located approximately 1KM from the town of Tubbercurry, which is a short 30 minute drive from Sligo town. The course itself is an excellent 9 hole par 70 parkland course, set at the foot of the Ox mountains, offering beautiful views of the surrounding counrtyside.

Tubbercurry Golf Club opened to the public in 1991 and have continued to add new facilities since then with the addition of a beautifully appointed clubhouse. The signature 158 metre par 3, 8th hole presents players with an elevated tee position to a difficult green below. Clubhouse facilities include ladies and gents changing rooms, bar where food is also available. Course facilities include a large putting green and chipping area. Booking is available via the clubhouse.

Castle Dargan Golf Club

Castle Dargan Golf ClubCastle Dargan Golf Club is a Darren Clarke designed, 18 hole parkland course situated just a short drive from Sligo on the outskirts of the village of Ballygawley. The course itself makes use of the matural ebb and flow of the Castle Dargan estate taking advantage of some of the pre-existing features like natural lakes, trees and ancient stone walls and ruins to make this beautifully situated course a must play for any golfing enthusiast.

This par 72 course tops out at 6800 yards from the championship tees and boasts a host of facilities including a short game practice facility and large putting green. Ladies and gents locker rooms and showers are also available on site and food is provided in the bar. Golf carts, trolleys and golf clubs are also available for rent.

Ballymote Golf Club

Ballymote Golf ClubBallymote is a scenic parkland course with wide fairways across undulating countryside. Beginners and experienced players are welcome to visit. This is a 9-hole course established in 1943. Fifty years later it moved to a new 9-hole parkland course located 1.5km east of Ballymote town, on the road for Catlebaldwin nestled among rolling hills to the north of Keshcorran Mountain and the caves of Kesh.

There are plenty of tricky holes and greens that offer a good challenge. The club is open to membership and visitors are welcome at all times. The members’ weekly competition takes place on Sunday mornings, otherwise the course is not overly busy.

Bundoran Golf Club

Bundoran Golf ClubBundoran Golf Club is known as the hidden gem of the northwest and presents the golfer with a challenging yet picturesque round of golf. This par 70 golf course hugs the Donegal Bay coastline and consists of a mixture of dunes and undulating fairways. The course offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Dartry Mountain Range, which adds to enjoyment of this beautiful golf course.

Facilities at the clubhouse include a pro shop, trolley & buggy rental, changing rooms, showers and toilets for both ladies and gents. There is also a putting green and a practice fairway at the side of the clubhouse and ample parking is situated to the rear. The clubhouse itself was completely refurbished in 2010 and offers fantastic view of the course either from the bar or the balcony.

Tea/coffee and bar food are served daily during the summer months and special menus are available for golf societies and larger groups. Green fees vary depending on the time of year and a full list of fees is available on the club website. Online booking is also available via the website.

Bertie’s Pitch & Putt

Berties Pitch & Putt, SligoBertie’s Pitch & Putt is a family owned and run 18 hole pitch & putt course located just 3km from Sligo on the main Sligo to Bundoran road, approximately 14km from 8 Gables Self Catering Accommodation. The course itself covers 11 acres of rolling hills and is maintained to the highest standards by trained greenkeeping staff.

Holes range in distances from 43 metres up to 70 metres and take in the undulation changes and additional features of the course. One of the more prominent features of the course if the stone wall that separates the upper and lower fields of the course. This stone wall comes into play at the signature 10th hole as you must play your tee shot over it to the green below.

Families and groups are welcome and booking is not essential but recommended for groups of over 25 people. It costs €7 for an adult and €5 for under 10’s with all equipment including clubs, balls and tees provided.
